It used to be simple to pick a cop car out in a parking lot. The familiar shape of a beat-up Crown Vic was easy for anyone to spot on the road. But, today – departments all over the world are sprucing up their fleet with vehicles that make gear heads drool with envy. To be honest, even the run-of-the-mill Chargers and Fords are pretty easy on the eyes. We’ve rounded up 10 of the coolest police cars in existence. Check them all out and tell us which one’s your favorite.

#1 US Border Patrol Dune Buggy

The US Border Patrol’s dune buggies are referred to as Desert Patrol Vehicles. Hands down, these cop cars are gnarly. Each vehicle is outfitted with 200-HP VW engines, which allows them to top out at about 80 miles an hour. Even better, the unique suspension allows them to tackle debris, dunes, and rocks with ease. Border Patrol officers use the Desert Patrol Vehicles in all US-Mexico border states with the most being utilized in Arizona.

#2 BMW i8

We’ve all seen the movies and heard the stories about some of the wealthiest people in the world living in Dubai. Viral videos have featured Range Rovers stunting in the desert, and there are endless photos of supercars covering the roads. With this in mind, it makes sense that the police department would also need a super fast and impressive police car to keep up with the community. And, that’s exactly what they’ve done. The BMW i8 is one of the most impressive cars on the road anywhere. It’s a plug-in hybrid that has the ability to hit 60mph from zero in just 4.2 seconds. Officers won’t have to stop for gas often because this fleet vehicle gets 112 mpg and has a 1.5-liter turbo’d three-cylinder and electric motor. The unique design puts out 355 HP and delivers 420-lbs of torque.

#3 Bugatti Veyron

Okay, we promise, we’re not going to go over every cop car in use in Dubai, but when you’re making a list of the coolest police vehicles in the world, there’s no way to avoid concentrating on Dubai. In addition to the BMW i8, Dubai also has a Bugatti Veyron. On its own, the Veyron is one of the most expensive and badass cars ever made. Seriously! It has a price tag of $1.6M. Why so much? Well, the supercar can hit 60mph in just 2.5 seconds. It can also hit 265 miles per hour with ease.

#4 Aston Martin One-77

This is the last Dubai police vehicle we’re going to drool over today. We almost didn’t add it, but it’s too incredible to leave off the list. Aston Martin only made 77 of these stupid fast vehicles. Each was equipped with a 750-HP, V-12 engine. It’s a beast on the streets!

With all the ridiculous cars on the street in Dubai, it’s no wonder that the police department has such impressive vehicles in their fleet. But, the truth of the matter is – most of these cars aren’t used on the street. Instead, they’re used in parades, put on display, and admired by the public. No matter what their purpose is, you can’t deny the Aston Martin One-77 is awesome.

#5 Edmonton Police Department Dodge Challenger

You’re probably asking yourself what’s cool about a Challenger? After all, there’s literally thousands on the street in the US alone. That’s true, but how many Challengers do you see dressed up in Dukes of Hazzard colors?

The white and orange Dodge Challenger owned by the Edmonton Police Department makes everyone want to join the academy – just for a chance to drive it. The vehicle is popular around town and even has a Mopar logo on the front fender.

#6 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

In 2008, the Italian State Police department was gifted with a Gallardo LP560-4 by Lamborghini. Seriously? Lamborghini just gifted the Italian police with one of the coolest vehicles on the planet? That’s amazing and the police were grateful to receive it. Almost immediately, it was decked out with lights, sirens, and given an amazing paint job. The catch is, the vehicle isn’t used as a regular patrol car.

The supercar is used mostly as a parade vehicle, and likely won’t ever get to participate in the kind of chases cinema-lovers crave, but it’s still fun to look at.

#7 Hummer H1 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts

Police in the US have their share of awesome cars and trucks too. In Rehobooth, Massachusetts, cops travel in a decked out Hummer H1.  And, they aren’t the only ones. In nearby, Hopkinton, Rhode Island, officers have access to a Humvee as well. The New England area is prone to huge amounts of snow. With Humvees in their fleet, the local PD can make it just about anywhere they’d ever need to go. The vehicles also get a ton of attention and have a rather intimidating appearance as well.

#8 Vintage Land Rover Defender

Not all flashy cop cars have to be brand new or even extremely innovative. In the UK, one of the best police vehicles used on a regular basis is the vintage Land Rover Defender. The Land Rover is popular because it ca climb rocks, go through deep puddles, and tackle just about anything that gets in its way.

The 1985 SUV is often featured in parades and celebrations, but department officials aren’t scared to put it in service when needed.

#9 Alfa Romeo GT

Even Australian law enforcement has access to the best cars in the world. One of the most talked about supercars in Australia is the Alfa Romeo GT. Interestingly enough, the Alfa Romeo GT that civilians talk about belongs to state police. However, Australian police don’t take perps to the slammer in this impressive car. Instead, it’s used in celebrations and for educational purposes only.

#10 Renault F1 in London

We realize that some of these vehicles are used just for educational purposes and to draw attention to the department. But, the Renault F1 in London is one of the coolest police cars on the planet regardless of the department’s intentions. There’s just one tiny problem – it has absolutely no functionality as a cop car. It doesn’t even have a backseat. Yet, that doesn’t stop people from hooting and hollering when they hear the Renault F1 roaring its engine in the distance.

When we think of cool police cars, we can’t help but consider the 10 on this list. Do you know of a department with a supercar in their fleet? If so, let us know.
