Emergency Vehicle Lights - Gadgets Of Warning.

When it comes to getting to places in a hurry nothing can clear the way like emergency vehicle lights. Government departments such as the fire department, police, and hospitals mostly use emergency lights. Emergency vehicle lights are used by these vehicles to warn others of their state of emergency and so demand right of way by law. There are many different types of emergency lights in use today. Gone are the days when these lights were nothing but a flashing light bulb inside a red plastic or glass dome on the roof of a vehicle. Emergency vehicle lights have evolved through the ages and have grown fancier and more effective.

They consists of two or more rows of lights. Each row may have two or six pairs of lights. They may be as many as four rows of lights. The color of the lights in the light bar varies too. The light bar may consist of one color or a combination of color. Whatever the case may be, the lights will be a combination of red, blue, green or yellow lights if not just a single color.

Technology of emergency vehicle lights has changed too. In the beginning there was a vertical light bulb, much like the incandescent bulb we have in our homes today. These light bulbs were not very sturdy and never had a long life. One thing that reduced the life of the bulb further was the flashing effect needed to attract attention. In order for the light to flash on and off surges of electrical currents were created in the bulb.

Deck 2 Dual Emergency Vehicle LightTechnology advanced and this flashing technique was changed. A concave reflector was placed vertically behind the bulb on an electrical motor. As this reflector rotated around the bulb it created a flashing effect. All this led to major power consumption and possibility of mechanical failure.

The advent of Light Emitting Diodes also called LEDs has changed the way emergency vehicle lights are made, look and operate. LEDs, unlike their incandescent cousins have a very long life because they do not heat up to produce light. They also consume a microscopic percentage of the energy the light bulb consumes. LEDs are tough light producing components and have a very long life.

It takes about a hundred LEDs to produce the light that a single light bulb does. However, the energy consumption is still a fraction of what a light bulb would consume. LEDs can be made to flash on and off rapidly with no mechanical paraphernalia involved. So there is less chances of a breakdown. LED emergency vehicle lights are very lightweight and so they can be installed easily without any heavy-duty hardware. Thus reducing the cost drastically.

Because LED emergency vehicle lights can be constructed in a matrix it is possible for the lights to flash out a warning in words. This is one advantage of LED emergency vehicle lights not to mention the low cost factor.
