Strobe Lights the Simple Strobe
Strobe lights are also known as stroboscopic lamps or simply strobes. These devices flash light regularly and are used in industrial and scientific applications as well as for police lights and just for fun. In clubs and raves a main reason they are used is because of the effect they produce: they give the illusion of slow motion. Anti-collision aircraft lighting, alarm systems (for when the alarm goes off) and theatrical lighting (especially to give the illusion of lightening) also use strobe lights. Strobes are also widely used in emergency vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances because they are bright and catch peoples attention easily. Strobes are even used by scuba divers to signal emergencies.
A strobe light usually has a capacitor, which is a device that stores energy, like a battery, but can charge and release energy more quickly than a battery. Once the capacitor is charged, a little bit of power is transferred to the trigger transformer. This generates a voltage spike that ionizes xenon gas in a flash tube in the light and produces a bright flash of light which is really plasma discharge. Some strobes do not have capacitors and do not require charging and have faster flash rates. However, in strobes without capacitors, the lifetime of the flash can be reduced if the light is powered for too long. A typical strobe flash usually lasts for about two hundred microseconds but can be faster or slower depending on the use of the strobe and the preference of the person using it. Some strobes are continuous and provide high intensity light, but only for short periods of time so the flash tube does not overheat and break.

We sell emergency vehicle LED strobe lights, police strobe lights, as well as regular LED strobe lights for personal or party use. The personal lights include small battery-operated lights as well as the most sophisticated bar lights, and everything in between. These lights can even be installed on your car if you wish, just as they are installed on police cars, fire engines, and tow trucks, or they can remain removable. There is also the choice between battery powered lights or lights that are connected to a source at all times. This choice should be made depending on what the use of the strobe will be. Portable strobe lights do not have to be plugged into a wall outlet, however; they can usually be plugged into a car adapter and so can be used on a car. The strobes that are plugged in usually have a brighter, more sustained light than the battery-powered strobes.
