Uses for Emergency Light Bars
Everyone is aware that emergency vehicles use emergency light bars to signal their approach when on the job. Police cars use a variety of light bars, usually dependent on their department. Ambulances, fire trucks, tow trucks and a number of other vehicles use emergency light bars as well.
Other uses for emergency light bars is on the personal vehicles of emergency personnel. First responders, volunteer fire fighters, off duty police workers and a variety of others rely on emergency light bars to enable them to quickly get through traffic when on their way to an emergency situation. In some situations, volunteers or off duty personnel will drive their personal vehicle to the site of the emergency, using their emergency light bars to warn approaching people of an emergency. The emergency light bars also help ensure the safety of the emergency personnel on scene.
Highway workers also use emergency light bars, although generally in yellow instead of red and blue. Highway workers need to ensure that they are visible for a long distance so that drivers slow down when approaching, ensuring the safety of the workers. These light bars tend to use highly visible bulbs that attract the attention of people whether they are driving toward the lights or not.
Volunteers and others who place these light bars on their personal vehicles do so for the safety for themselves and others. Many install the bars by themselves. The light bars can be purchased at many online stores specializing in safety equipment. Most come complete with mounting brackets and wiring and many provide a low drain on the battery to reduce the possibility of a dead battery when using the lights while the vehicle is not running.
Many first responders and volunteers are paying far more than they should be for their personal vehicle light bars. Most online sites are aware of this and are trying to reduce the cost to first responders and other emergency personnel for their personal vehicles. This is primarily due to the fact that many believe that emergency personnel should not be forced to pay outrageous prices for items which ensure the safety of others as well as themselves.
