The Various Kinds of Warning Lights

Warning LightsEmergency warning lights are devices used on police and other emergency vehicles to alert other drivers on the road. Whether they make use of rotating lights or strobes, the idea is to get attention quickly. These lights may be displayed on the outside of a vehicle or inside, depending on the need and the particular use the lights are employed for. Normally, upon seeing the flashing lights, the other traffic on the road should make every effort to give way to the emergency vehicle.

Numerous kinds of police warning lights are used to help motorists know of possible danger. The lights come in a large variety because they are employed for different situations, hence, they are designed accordingly. Almost everyone is familiar with the LED deck and dash bars commonly seen at the top of the police cars or dashboards. The strobe lights, too, are a common sight along with grille units, directional bars, and beacons.

Warning LightsThe LED deck and dash bars are typically employed in emergency situations and undercover police work. They are available in an array of colors, typically red, blue, amber, and white and come with a powerful optical system so a strong light may be generated. These lights are designed to be seen from a distance. They are constructed using many strong power LEDs that have the capability to produce powerful brightness. The basic light bar is made with six to eight LEDs. The more complex units combine four to five bars in a unit, each containing eight LEDs. These bars are designed to be water and wind resistant, so they are sure to work in all conditions.

The LED strobe warning lights are a common sight around the globe as flashing lights on top of police cars. Usually, they are used in conjunction with a siren so the police car is not just seen, but heard too. The concept of a strobe light is similar to that used in flash photography. Strobe lights are usually very durable and easy to mount on the car. The strobe light is not only used for police vehicles, but they are commonly seen on ambulances and fire vehicles as well. Due to the fact that strobe warning lights have so many varied applications, it is available in a large variety of colors and sizes to suit all needs.

The grille lights are a different type of police LED lights that are usually employed as warning lights. The LED grille light is very powerful and cost effective. Since the grille lights, too, can be adapted to be used by the different emergency vehicles, they are available with varying specifications to suit the different requirements. The box grille warning lights draw a mere 1.5 amps of current and are becoming increasingly popular due to their affordable price and robust performance.

Directional bar lights are useful not only by the police; they also lend themselves well to construction work. They can be installed as rear view lights or on a board placed on the road to indicate the lane is closed, so an alternate lane must be used. They come equipped with powerful third generation LEDs and are available in a variety of colors to suit different needs. The warning lights can be programmed in 15 flash patterns to make them useful for different purposes. The LEDs are housed in heavy duty, weather proof material. These lights are economical, as well as cost effective, because they use very little power.

Police beacons are the rotating LED lights employed as warning lights by law officials. The beacons are ideal for drawing attention to an approaching car or for being easily visible when followed. Again, there is a large color selection available, as these too are used by other emergency services besides police vehicles. Several types are available, with many rotating at speeds of 60 to 80 flashes per minute. Police vehicles make use of the magnet brackets to mount the beacons. There are even dash beacons that come with a hook for mounting. They have an electric cord switch and a suction gadget for attachment. The strength of a beacon is so bright that the alerts can hardly be missed.
