Versatile Emergency Lights
For first responders, emergency lights are among the most versatile tools at their disposal. Attached permanently to fire trucks, police cruisers and ambulances, they can provide much needed visibility and early warning in heavy traffic. Handheld and portable emergency lights offer more flexibility than fixed lighting solutions and can be easily installed and removed from vehicles when necessary; this makes them a good choice for first responders who sometimes are required to use their personal vehicles in the course of their duties. By simply hooking the portable emergency lights to a cigarette lighter outlet or other power point inside the car or truck, any vehicle can be converted into an emergency services transport on the spot. This allows quick response by rescue, fire and police personnel no matter where they may be when the call arrives.
Emergency lights range from simple steady beacons to advanced LED devices that can display arrows or simple text messages. Xenon-bulb strobe lights were originally one of the most popular types of emergency lighting, but have largely been replaced by LED models that run cooler, require less maintenance, and use less energy. LED emergency lights are rapidly becoming the standard for police and ambulance services throughout the country due to their high energy efficiency and durability; the lighter weight of LED devices allows them to be easily moved and creates less drag and weight for the vehicle to move.
Rotating beacons were one of the first types of emergency lights in common use in the United States; typically mounted on top of fire trucks, ambulances and police cars, these basic emergency lights provided adequate visibility in low-traffic, largely rural environments. The challenges presented by urban areas and high-traffic zones, however, led to the development of multiple lights mounted atop emergency vehicles. These early emergency light bars usually consisted of two or more rotating beacons combined with a siren; over time, the sirens were moved to the front of the vehicle to reduce the risk of hearing damage, and the lightbars incorporated more emergency lights in a variety of types. Today, light bars are standard on many emergency vehicles and are one of the most popular categories of emergency lights. Whatever your agency’s vehicle lighting needs, Extreme Tactical Dynamics carries a wide range of emergency lights at affordable prices in order to better serve the first responder community.
